Cutthroat Pass
Our second post-road-trip hike involved a visit to our good friends, the Larch trees during their annual golden display. We went to the North Cascades (Cutthroat Pass), revisiting part of a trip we first did the previous summer (Snowy Lakes) ... but this time with the larches in their full glory. WOW! Great weather, broad vistas of big peaks, beautiful sunset and sunrise, and the larches on top of that! Really magical. The whimsical shapes of the larches are always a visual treat. As a side note ... this hike also included the debut of Tom's new pack (ULA Catalyst). It's 5 lbs lighter than my trusty, super-comfy, 20-year-old McHale big-hauler. Total pack weight (for a 2-night stay) was 31 lbs. Not ultra-light (yet?), but my knees were happy!
